TIME MANAGEMENT PLANNING FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A5-STORY CATERING BUILDING USING THE CRITICAL PATH METHOD (CPM)

The construction of the 5-Story Catering Building at Pondok Pesantren Kedunglo, Kediri, requires sound time management planning to ensure the project is completed on schedule, given that poor time management can cause delays, cost overruns, and reduced work quality. This study aims to develop a schedule for the structural work, determine the total duration of the work based on optimistic and pessimistic time assumptions, and identify the critical path of the project using the Critical Path Method (CPM) supported by Microsoft Project software. This research is a descriptive quantitative study using an engineering approach. The data used consist of the Budget Plan (RAB) for the concrete structural work, which was grouped into 21 main activities (Activities A to U), covering preparatory work, bored pile foundations, pile caps, columns, beams, and floor/roof slabs. The duration of each activity was calculated based on work volume and labor productivity referring to the Unit Price Analysis (AHSP), then analyzed using forward pass and backward pass calculations, and validated using Microsoft Project. The results show that the total duration for completing the structural work under normal conditions is 524 working days (20.15 months), under the fast scenario 403 working days (15.50 months), and under the slow scenario 778 working days (29.92 months). All 21 structural work activities lie on the critical path with Total Float (TF) = 0, following the critical path sequence A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H-I-J-K-L-M-N-O-P-Q-R-S-T-U, meaning that a delay in any single activity will directly affect the overall completion time of the project. The CPM method supported by Microsoft Project proved capable of providing a clear picture of the work sequence, duration, and criticality of each structural activity, making it a useful reference for planning and controlling project time.
