This research was motivated by the low English language skills of group B children at Wahidiyah Kindergarten Plus, Denpasar City, caused by conventional learning methods without engaging visual media, as well as inaccurate pronunciation exemplified by teachers. This study aimed to: (1) determine the English language skills of group B children at Wahidiyah Kindergarten Plus, Denpasar City, before using flashcards; and (2) determine the effectiveness of using flashcards in improving the English skills (vocabulary and pronunciation) of group B children at Wahidiyah Kindergarten Plus, Denpasar City.
This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 15 group B children at Wahidiyah Kindergarten Plus, Denpasar City, in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data collection techniques included observation, performance tests, and documentation. The instruments used were an observation sheet on the use of flashcards and an assessment sheet for the children's English skills. Data analysis used a paired sample t-test and N-Gain calculation.
The results of the study showed that: (1) children's English language skills before using flashcard media were still relatively low with an average pretest score of 45.0 which was included in the "Poor" category; (2) there was a significant influence of the use of flashcard media on improving children's English language skills, as evidenced by an increase in the average score from 45.0 (pretest) to 85.0 (posttest). The results of the Paired Sample t-test showed a calculated t-value = 13.472 > t-table = 2.145 with a significance value (2-tailed) = 0.000 < 0.05, so H₀ was rejected and H₁ was accepted. The N-Gain calculation obtained an average score of 0.727 which was included in the "High" category. Observations of the learning process showed an average score of 3.61 (the "Very Good" category) which indicated children's enthusiasm and active participation during the learning process.
