Abstract

Stunting is a problem that is increasingly found in developing countries, including Indonesia. According to the United Nations International Childre’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), around 40% of children in rural areas experience with a stunted growth. Therefore, UNICEF supports a number of initiation to create a conducive national environment to the nutrition through the launch of Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) wherein this program includes the stunting prevention. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between nutritional status and the occurrence of stunting in children aged 4-5 years old in Region of Sukorame Community Health Centre, Bandar Lor Village, Kediri City in 2019. This study used type of correlation analytic research with a cross-sectional approach. The populations were all thechildren under five who came to the Maternal & Child Health Centre and had a KMS in Region of Sukorame Community Health Centre Kediri City which amount of 72 respondents with the sample of 211 that was taken by purposive sampling technique.This study used secondary data. The data were analyzed by using chi-square test. The analysis results were obtained the respondents of nutritional status relationship to the occurrence of stunting in children aged 4-5 years. Children who included in malnutrition category (BGM) were as many as 6 respondents (8%) from the total respondents, children in less category were 61 (85%) from the total respondents, children in adequate category were 5 (7%) from the total respondents andand there was no relationship between nutritional status to the occurrence of stunting in children aged 4-5 years (p = 0.000> 0.05 then Ho accepted).The level of relationship including weak and negative (Correlation Coefficient 0.000) means that there is no relationship between nutritional status and the occurrence of stunting in children aged 4-5 years. The relationship level was including in weak and negative level (Correlation Coefficient 0.000) that was mean that there was no relationship of nutritional status to the occurrence of stunting in children aged 4-5 years. The conclusion of this research is there is no relationship between nutritional statuses to the occurrence of stunting in children aged 4-5 years.
